Description - External About the Position: Operating in a heavily unionized and highly complex business environment, the incumbent will be responsible for labor and Employee and Labor relations matters for the Upstate New York region. The incumbent will serve as the primary point of contact for all levels of management and Executives for matters related to represented employees. Additionally, the incumbent will work closely with the Employee and Labor Relations team to develop and implement comprehensive short and long term labor strategy that enables National Grid to accomplish strategic and tactical objectives that drives business performance.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to): - Work collaboratively with the HR team and the business, acting as the interface between the two, to ensure the HR agenda is developed, facilitated and implemented effectively for the represented population. - Provide guidance to all levels of Sr. Management in all Employee and Labor relations matters including, business objectives, negotiating strategies, labor contract interpretation, grievance handling, HR policies and procedures and direct the Wage Administration Program in order to support the business. - Serve as primary relationship manager with all union leadership in order to build and sustain strong, productive and effective relationships. - Lead and set direction for grievance and arbitration administration and resolution. - Implement and maintain current labor agreements and contract data ensuring that Corporate policies relating to employee discipline are handled fairly and consistently. - Lead local contract negotiations, complaints and investigations and other special projects pertaining to Labor and Employee Relations matters to ensure effective resolution. - Act as chief negotiator for local collective bargaining negations and work directly with management and executives to develop and execute upon negotiations strategies and targets. - Responsible for all aspects of the terms and conditions of employment for bargaining unit employees in the jurisdiction. - Recruit, motivate and develop the Employee and Labor Relations team in order to inspire commitment and engagement and improve long term performance. - Develop processes and review labor employee policies relevant to jurisdiction in order to ensure they are in line with strategic business objectives. - Proactively build and maintain internal and external networks in order to apply Employee and Labor Relations best practice to own area of responsibility.

Qualifications - External - Knowledge & Experience Required: •A Bachelor's Degree in Labor Relations,in HR or business-related area (or equivalent work experience) is required. •An advanced degree/credits is preferred. •At least 5 years or more of Employee and Labor Relations experience. •Significant experience of working within Employee and Labor Relations •Ability to foster alignment across National Grid’s jurisdictions. •Ability to lead by example in driving change throughout the organization. •Ability to make tough decisions for the ultimate benefit of National Grid. •Balances a drive for results with a sensitivity to people issues. •Experience of managing and integrating the work of a functional discipline and demonstrates the ability to provide direction, the appropriate structure and effective resourcing to enable the team to perform at their best. Capabilities - Ability to effectively operate in a matrix organization; influencing across processes/functions and jurisdictions. - Effective use of complex influence strategies to sell and implement ideas on behalf of the company. - Ability to stay up to speed on key labor and employment, legislation, policies and decisions that might have an impact on National Grid’s performance. - Ability to interface with individuals at all levels of management, bargaining unit employees and union representatives. - Ability to act as chief negotiator for local collective bargaining negations and work directly with management and executives to develop and execute upon negotiations strategies and targets. Job Dimensions: - 4 separate bargaining units representing approximately 3000 employees.
