Job Scope
The Manager, Labor Relations (LR) helps develop and deliver on supply chain labor relations strategies, negotiating contracts and providing support to HR managers, site and regional level operational leaders and the labor function generally. The LR Manager travels extensively, conducting union contract negotiations, devising and directing positive employee relations activities with an Lean Six Sigma and High Performance Work Systems focus, provides day-to-day advice and support to the business on contract administration issues and grievances, develops and delivers training, stays abreast of trends and developments in the labor relations discipline and generally helps develop, support, improve and execute on the company's labor relations strategy, as well as performing other duties as assigned. This position reports to the Director, Labor Relations.

Main Responsibilities

  • Acts as lead negotiator in 10-15 labor contracts per year including leading all pre, during and post negotiation activities.
  • Supports HR site leaders in the execution of company labor and employee relations strategy including management capability building, contract administration, negotiations preparation and business continuity planning (BCP).
  • Provides regular coaching and counseling support to site HR and operational leadership in labor relations functional areas.
  • Develops, updates as needed and executes effective training tools, and conducts training for HR, supervisors and managers in the labor relations area.
  • Supports site leadership throughout all aspects of contract administration including the grievance process; prepares and conducts grievance meetings at appropriate level per the contracts.
  • Assists in preparation and serves as company representative in arbitrations, NLRB and other administrative agency proceedings as needed.
  • Maintains strong working knowledge of labor law practices and current trends and developments in the field.
  • Provides positive employee relations training and leads execution of activities during union organizing campaigns.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Strong project management skills, ability to work independently and pro-actively manage time and work.
  • Proven track record of performance results, meeting multiple deadlines and priorities.


  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree in Labor/Industrial Relations, Human Resources, Business, Political Science, Economics, or Juris Doctor, preferred.


  • 5+ years of relevant labor relations or human resources experience; or relevant course of study at accredited and recognized academic institution required.
  • Experience in labor negotiations, and union contract administration, and/or union free campaigns, and prior CPG/Manufacturing experience highly preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Candidate must be a team player and have the ability to relate to and communicate with all levels of leadership, management, associates and union representatives.
