Position Overview:

Under general supervision of the Director of HR & Employee Relations, the Labor Relations Associate will administer various Labor Relations practices, including, but not limited to, monitoring performance standards, advising management, partnering with our Labor partners in resolving issues, etc. He/she will liaise between employees, Union representatives and MetroPlus management.

Job Description:

  • Monitors adherence to objective performance standards set forth by departments across the organization
  • Monitors adherence to MetroPlus and NYC H+H policies and procedures
  • Assists management in preparing, planning and scheduling pre-disciplinary hearings (counselling sessions and warnings)
  • Monitors industry trends to advise management on performance standards
  • Prepares progress reports, develops summaries and reports status of Labor Relations calendar, case activity, turnaround time, and departmental patterns, trends and analysis
  • Investigates and processes employee’ grievance to be handled at the corporate level
  • Serve as Hearing Officer for grievances handled at the corporate level and represents the corporation when appealed to City Office of Labor
  • Relations and at arbitration hearings
  • Interprets contracts and agreements and Labor Relations Orders dealing with wages, hours, working conditions and all other matters within the purview of the agreement affecting labor relations, employee relations and personnel management activities
  • Meets with Union representatives in Labor-Management meetings to discuss and seek resolution of MetroPlus issues.
  • Maintains ongoing liaison with Union and Union Representatives
  • Maintains liaison with Office of Labor Relations, office of Collective Bargaining and other City, State or Federal agencies relating to various labor relations matters
  • All other tasks as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor or Master’s degree; and
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in the field of labor relations including, negotiation and administration of agreements of labor relations matters; or,
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience, knowledge and skills sufficient to indicate ability to perform satisfactorily
