The University of Minnesota’s Department of Work and Organizations in the Carlson School of Management is pleased to welcome applications for two teaching positions as Senior Lecturers. It is a very exciting time to be engaged in educating students on all aspects of work, the employment relationship, managing and leading people, the behavior of individuals and groups in organizations, and diversity. Here at the Carlson School, we are seeing growing interest in these topics at all levels, developing new courses, and infusing these topics into our programs. We are seeking two dedicated, accomplished, full-time instructors to teach in these areas.

About the Position:

We are looking for two extraordinary colleagues who will teach a combination of undergraduate, MBA, and professional master’s courses. We have teaching needs in two distinct areas.

  • For Position 1, preference will be given to candidates with expertise and demonstrated competence teaching in the areas of organizational behavior, workplace psychology, leadership, inclusion, diversity, and/or culture.
  • For Position 2, preference will be given to candidates with expertise and demonstrated competence teaching in the areas of applied or strategic human resources practices, especially in the areas of compensation and benefits, performance management, and/or human capital management.

Colleagues will also be expected to participate in professional and administrative activities, including providing expertise and assistance in the areas of program administration and curricular development.

Job Duties:

  • The Senior Lecturer position is responsible for teaching 24 credits during a nine month academic year (September – May). The teaching assignments will be at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Be able to teach both in person courses and remote/online courses.
  • Duties may also include various service appointments on departmental and/or collegiate committees, providing advice to undergraduate and graduate students (e.g., as part of the students’ independent studies or in other settings), and course coordination responsibilities.
  • This is a non-tenure track Academic Professional/Administrative position for a nine-month academic year. Subsequent renewals, if any, will be on a nine-month academic calendar, dependent upon annual performance reviews and funding availability. Limited teaching during the summer may be available on an overload basis.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Human Resources, M.B.A., business-related advanced degree, or a deep understanding of and experience with the nature and function of business organizations.
  • Teaching or training experience with a strong record of instructional effectiveness.
  • At least three year’s work experience in organizational behavior, industrial/organizational psychology, human resources, or a related field. For one position, strong familiarity with diversity, equity and inclusion and other organizational behavior and workplace psychology issues such as conflict, motivation, leadership, negotiations, and teamwork. For the other position, strong familiarity with human resource issues including staffing, training, development, compensation, job design, performance management, and employee/labor relations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional presentation skills.
  • Facility with online collaboration tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in a field related to Organizational Behavior, Human Resources and Industrial Relations, or Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
  • Teaching experience in higher education with a strong record of student evaluations of teaching.
  • More than three years of work experience bridging leadership, organizational behavior, diversity, equity and inclusion, industrial and organizational psychology, or human resources and other business functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
