Job Description

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Labor Relations Representative at our Northshore Mine.  The Labor Relations Representative will perform professional-level labor relations work in the areas of contract interpretation, administration, progressive discipline, and contract research/preparation. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and thrive in an environment where they are able to solve complex workplace situations. 

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Researches and assists in the development of labor agreement language and negotiating objectives by contributing recommendations to Management.
  • Gathers, prepares, and analyzes technical and statistical data for use in the negotiation of labor agreements, grievance processing, mediation, arbitration, Unfair Labor Practice charges, fact-finding, and other labor relations activities.
  • Analyzing, interpreting, and administering all labor agreements.
  • Performs workplace investigations.
  • Gives guidance and support to management in all areas of bargaining unit employee relations.
  • Promote and maintain positive relations between the company, local union officials, and international union representative(s).
  • Represent management and meet with supervisors and union representatives to investigate and resolve grievances.
  • Other duties as assigned.  

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, industrial relations, labor relations, or equivalent. 
  • 3-5 years of experience in human resources with an emphasis on labor relations preferred, preferably in a mining operation or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster strong, positive relationships with Company Management and Union leadership.
  • Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to manage multiple and complex administrative processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in independently assessing and resolving a variety of labor/employee relations issues.
