Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a driven and successful Human Resources and Labor Relations Manager to lead our New Carlisle, IN facility. The manager plays a crucial role in the strategic and tactical support for employees and labor relations activities by collaborating with business leaders and executing business objectives. The ideal candidate is a creator of a positive work culture, has experience handling union relationships and activities, and managing complex situations and working environments.

Summary of Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as subject matter expert for the handling of all labor/management issues.
  • Represent the company throughout the grievance, investigation, and arbitration processes in a fair, objective, and timely manner.
  • Assist in managing the collective bargaining process by consulting on and developing effective bargaining strategies when negotiating agreements with the union.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with union representatives and ensure compliance with the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Collaborate with business leaders and internal constituents to create strategies for talent acquisition, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Provide functional leadership to others who formally report to other managers.
  • Proactively drive change that leads to a high-performing and positive work environment.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of human resources, labor, and employee relations in a union environment.
  • Demonstrated success at all levels of the collective bargaining agreement contract and grievance resolution, including up to arbitration.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and handle high-pressure situations.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to EEO, ADA, FLSA, and FMLA.
  • Ability to function as a business partner and facilitate change.
  • Ability to compile and analyze business data.

 Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Progressive human resources/labor relations experience in leadership and contract negotiation roles.
  • Successful track record working complex organizational structures.
  • SHRM-CP/PHR Certification.
