Plan now to attend the 67th Annual Meeting of the Labor and Employment Relations Association on May 28-31, 2015. The meeting will be held in Pittsburgh, PA at the The Westin Convention Center, Pittsburgh.The LERA Program Committee requested sessions proposals for stimulating, creative, and controversial panels and workshops related to the theme "Evolving Workplace Relations: Connecting Research to Best Practices" as well as other proposals that deal with topics of current interest and the mission of LERA. We encouraged submissions from the perspectives of multiple disciplines – including but not limited to economics, sociology, political science, labor and employment law, industrial relations, and human resource studies – and the perspectives of multiple stakeholders, including investors, managers, workers and unions. Join us in Pittsburgh for exciting workshops, symposiums, section and industry council sessions and meetings, committee meetings, plenaries, breakfasts, luncheons, and receptions.

Registration opens online on February 6, 2015. All participants and attendees must register, including speakers and discussants (chairs, panelists, presenters, speakers, discussants, etc.). Those who pre-register by the earlybird registration deadline of April 14, 2015 will receive a discount. Online registration will be open through May 20, 2015. After that, onsite registration will be offered at the LERA headquarters hotel, the The Westin Convention Center, Pittsburgh, beginning May 28, 2015. Registration will open at 7am on the opening day of the conference and at 8am on the second, third, and fourth day of the conference. Many (most!) of the meals and special events are included in the price of your registration, including breakfasts, luncheons, and the Welcome Reception.

Rates do not include applicable state and local taxes, currently 14%. Room rates will be available for three days prior and three days after the event dates, subject to availability guest rooms at the time of the reservation. An early departure fee of $75 will apply if an attendee checks out prior to the confirmed checkout date (once a guest has checked in to the hotel, if the guest decides to change their departure date, at that  point, a $75 fee is assessed.) You can, however, cancel or change your reservation up to 24 hours prior to check-in, without fees.

Discounted hotel rooms will be available starting February 1, 2015 and through 5:00 p.m. local time at Hotel on Wednesday, May 6, 2015. After the cut-off date, it is at the hotel's discretion whether to accept additional reservations, which would be subject to prevailing rates and availability.

Check in time is 3PM, and checkout is 12PM. The hotel has both self and valet parking facilities, and if traveling by GPS, please input 1000 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222 to get directions. Hotel amenities include a fitness studio, an indoor heated pool, and complimentary high speed internet access in all guest rooms.

If you need to ship anything to the hotel, please ship it to your own attention at the hotel (John Doe's Room/Hotel Guest, The Westin Convention Center, Pittsburgh, 1000 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, USA). The hotel will charge your room a handling fee per package.

Parking and Shuttle Service
The Westin offers on-site hotel valet and self-service parking for $24 and $20 per night respectively. There is also off-site parking one block away (11th & Penn) for $13 per day and five blocks away (15th & Smallman) for $6 per day. Prices are subject to change. The complimentary Westin hotel shuttle operates within a one mile radius of our Pittsburgh hotel Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 11 PM. Contact the front desk for more details.

The Westin is 17 miles (~25 minutes) from the Pittsburgh International Airport. There is an airport shuttle bus that provides convenient transportation between our Pittsburgh hotel and Pittsburgh International Airport. The shuttle runs 24 hours a day and advance reservations are required. Please call 1-800-258-3826, or visit www.supershuttle.com to make your reservation. Cost is $24 one way and $46 round trip.

The LERA 17th Annual PhD Student Consortium will be held in conjunction with LERA's 67th Annual Meeting. Labor Relations in Pro Football Tour leaves Westin Friday at 12:15 p.m. returns 1:45 p.m.
30-45 minute session with Art Rooney or senior front office personnel from the Pittsburgh Steelers who can talk about the state of labor relations between the teams/league and the NFLPA and the leadership role the Steelers organization plays in labor-management relations in pro football.

Labor History in Pittsburgh leaves Westin at Friday 9:45 a.m. returns 2:15 p.m.
Pittsburgh has played a critical role in the history of the American labor movement and American employment relations. Several modern unions were founded in Pittsburgh, as was the American Federation of Labor. And a number of historic confrontations that shaped the relationship between labor and management took place in Pittsburgh, including the Rail Strike of 1877, the Homestead Strike/Lockout of 1892, and the 1919 Steel Strike. As a result, the history and culture of Pittsburgh reflects its working-class, blue collar roots, even as Pittsburgh has reinvented itself as a city driven by the technology, healthcare, and finance industries.

The Labor History Tour will travel to Homestead to visit the original Carnegie Steel Pump House, scene of the dramatic 1892 battle between Pinkerton agents. We will visit a few other historic sites in that community before traveling to the working class neighborhood of Millvale for a tour of the world famous Maxo Vanka Working Class Murals at St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church.

IBEW Joint Apprenticeship Training Center leaves Westin Friday at 12:15 p.m. returns 1:45 p.m.
The finest and most highly trained electrical workers in the country receive their training through local joint apprenticeship training committees utilizing the standardized education programs developed by the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Electrical Industry. Providing the highest level of training through the support of our partners.
